The duo ΣΩΜΑ (SOMA) was founded in Berlin in 2005, being the outcome of a long artistic partnership between the musicians Antonis Anissegos and Thymios Atzakas.

The duο’s work focuses on the creative fusion of composition and improvisation, where links between experienced and ideal sound are constantly being formed and deformed.

This double CD reflects the two dimensions of ΣΩΜΑ. The first CD presents the close musical liaison between Anissegos and Atzakas, along with three additional trios with Michalis Siganidis. The second CD features guest musicians, Savvina Yannatou, Maria Thoidou and Michalis Siganidis, who form trios, quartets and quintets with Anisengos and Atzakas. The CDs also include two quicktime videos of a complete concert by ΣΩΜΑ with Chris Dahlgren, Michalis Siganidis, Savvina Giannatou and Maria Thoidou, held at the international music community Music Village in 2009.

This is the duo’s first recording, made live in Thessaloniki in Polytropon studio, and it reflects their full expressive palette: from brief and dense dialogues between the two musicians to the need to reach out into a broader community of musicians, a need which came into expression in various live performances of ΣΩΜΑ. During the last four years, a number of exceptional musicians have performed live with Antonis Anissegos and Thymios Atzakas. Some of them, such as Sokratis Sinopoulos (kemence), the Iranian Βijan Chemirani (tombak) and the Chinese Wu Wei (sheng), represent internationally recognizable music traditions.

The recording has been made at the independent label defkaz (Thessaloniki) in collaboration with the organizers of the music community ‘Music Village’. It is intended to signal the beginning of a series of recordings, which will promote selected projects by artists who are active in ‘Music Village’ (www.music-village.gr).

Το ντουέτο ΣΩΜΑ γεννήθηκε στο Βερολίνο το 2005, μέσα από τη μακρόχρονη καλλιτεχνική συμβίωση μεταξύ των μουσικών Αντώνη Ανισέγκου και Θύμιου Ατζακά.   

Η εργασία του ντουέτου επικεντρώνεται στον δημιουργικό συγκερασμό σύνθεσης και αυτοσχεδιασμού, χτίζοντας – και γκρεμίζοντας – τις γέφυρες μεταξύ βιωμένου και ιδεατού ήχου. 

Το διπλό αυτό cd καλύπτει την διττή υπόσταση των ΣΩΜΑ. Στον πρώτο δίσκο παρουσιάζεται η στενή μουσική σχέση των Ανισέγκου και Ατζακά, μαζί με τέσσερα εμβόλιμα τρίο, με το Μιχάλη Σιγανίδη. Στον δεύτερο, το ΣΩΜΑ δίνει χώρο στους προσκεκλημένους μουσικούς, τη Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου, τη Μαρία Θωίδου μαζί με το Μιχάλη Σιγανίδη, σχηματίζοντας τρίο, κουαρτέτα και κουιντέτα..Τα cd περιέχουν και δύο βίντεο μίας ολόκληρης συναυλίας των ΣΩΜΑ, μαζί με τους Chris Dahlgren, Μιχάλη Σιγανίδη, Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου και Μαρία Θωίδου, στα πλαίσια της διεθνούς μουσικής κοινότητας Μουσικό Χωριό το 2009.

Έτσι, η πρώτη αυτή δισκογραφική εμφάνιση του ντουέτου, ηχογραφημένη ζωντανά στη Θεσσαλονίκη (studio Polytropon), έρχεται να εκφράσει όλο το εύρος της μουσικής ιδιοσυγκρασίας των ΣΩΜΑ: πρώτα οι αλληλοδιαπλεκόμενοι, σύντομοι και πυκνοί διάλογοι των δύο μουσικών. Έπειτα, σταδιακά, η ανάγκη για συνύπαρξη, μία ανάγκη που εκδηλώθηκε σε πολλές μουσικές παραστάσεις των ΣΩΜΑ: κατά τα τέσσερα τελευταία χρόνια, δίπλα στον Αντώνη Ανισέγκο και τον Θύμιο Ατζακά έχουν εμφανιστεί ζωντανά και άλλοι εξαιρετικοί μουσικοί - εκπρόσωποι διεθνώς αναγνωρίσιμων μουσικών παραδόσεων, όπως ο Σωκράτης Σινόπουλος (πολίτικη λύρα), ο Ιρανός Βijan Chemirani (tombak), ο Κινέζος  Wu Wei (sheng). 

Ο δίσκος εκδίδεται από την ανεξάρτητη δισκογραφική εταιρία defkaz (Θεσσαλονίκη), σε συμπαραγωγή με την ομάδα διοργάνωσης της μουσικής κοινότητας «Μουσικό Χωριό». Παράλληλα, σηματοδοτεί την έναρξη ενός κύκλου δισκογραφικών εκδόσεων που θα προβάλλει επιλεγμένα μουσικά projects καλλιτεχνών που αναπτύσσουν δραστηριότητα στην μουσική κοινότητα του Μουσικού Χωριού (music-village.gr).
